How To Install VLC Player in Ubuntu 16.04

I want to see videos on Ubuntu system. How can I install VLC player on Ubuntu??

Step 1: Add PPA

Open the terminal & simple execute the following command to add PPA on the system.

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:videolan/stable-daily
$ sudo apt-get update  

It should be noted that update command is a must after adding the repository on the system. Update command helps to update the repository with the latest available packages.

Step 2: Installation

$ sudo apt-get install vlc 

Once you finished above all commands, your system is ready with the VLC player. To check the installed VLC version on the Ubuntu, just run the below-mention command.

$ vlc --version

Here is VLC player 2.2.2 is installed. Now want to install latest VLC version on the system. Just run the following command.

Install VLC 3.0 latest Stable Version

Also, add the following two updated FFmpeg and Meson libraries:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jonathonf/ffmpeg-4
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jonathonf/meson 

And finally, install the latest stable VLC 3.0 version by issuing the following command.

$ sudo apt-get update 
$ sudo apt-get install vlc 
Install VLC media player 3.0
Install VLC media player 3.0
