This article will help you how to install the latest version of Netbeans on the Ubuntu 16.04/18.04 system.
1. Sudo access is needed.
2. Netbeans requires Java version 8 or above.
Note: Netbeans 8.2 version does not run on JDK 9. For this version, use the JDK 8 version.
Step 1: Install OpenJDK 8 on Ubuntu
Firstly, install the java version on the system. Here we are installing the OpenJDK. To install the OpenJDK 8 on Ubuntu is a very simple process. Run the below command.
sudo apt update sudo apt install openjdk-8-jdk
Execute the following command to verify the installed java version. As shown in the below screenshot.
Step 2: Install Netbeans IDE on Ubuntu
Above all, java is installed. Next step is to install the Netbeans. You can visit the official website NetBeans IDE download to download the latest version.
Alternatively, you can download the latest Netbeans IDE version using wget command. Here, we are downloading the latest Netbeans 11 version.
After downloading it, go to the downloading directory and run the following commands.
sudo chmod +x Apache-NetBeans-11.1-bin-linux-x64.sh ./Apache-NetBeans-11.1-bin-linux-x64.sh
After that Netbeans installer page will be open. Follow the options and Netbeans will be installed on the Ubuntu system. As shown in the below screenshot.
You can also tick the check for update option. It will automatically check for updates of installed plugins.
Finally, Netbeans is ready to run. Search the Netbeans on Ubuntu and open it.
